Full course description for Boot Camp: Creative Writing for Non-Majors Digital storytelling is a growing area of multimodal communication that is part of a larger movement to empower communities and voices through the use of digital tools and platforms.

Digital stories are short videos that combine narration, images (still and moving), sound effects, and music to tell a compelling story.

Creative writers start the year with a poetry workshop and later are able to employ poetic devices and technique in their fiction writing.

The course also covers creative nonfiction, including memoir and journalism.This advanced course in creative writing is intended for students who have a demonstrable interest in and appreciation of creative writing and wish to develop and refine their creative and critical skills and potential as writers.Your aim is to write fiction that engages a readership.You will share your writing with classmates in workshops, actively engaging in peer review and creative problem-solving.You will be encouraged to make creative use of your own scientific knowledge and not offer a progression from the 2nd year Creative Writing module since these Horizons modules are designed to allow as many students as possible to have the opportunity to take one creative writing module during their studies. Creative Writing Survey is an introductory course where inexperienced writers explore multiple genres.Story structure, poetry forms, and writing technique are explicitly taught and practiced through each genre.They are also given opportunities to organize events such as our Slam in the Woods poetry slams and special assemblies.The Creative Writing minor offers students experience in drafting, analyzing, and editing creative works of writing.Artists will participate in frequent workshops where writers read and analyze each other’s work.Throughout the course there is a focus on revision strategies.
