Ask the children to think of a story that they know well, and to write another version from another point of view. Write "Cinderella" from the point of view of one of the ugly sisters, OR Write "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" from the point of view of the troll, OR Write "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" from the point of view of Goldilocks.Based on "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl.When these are made, you could post them around the school. Discuss the main characters (Supermoo, Calf Crypton, the BOTS, Miss Pimple's class), and ask the children to produce a new adventure for a series of new Supermoo books.

Let each child take the mascot (and a book in which to write) home for a few days at a time.

While they are looking after the mascot, they should write a short story in the book outlining what the mascot has done during its stay with them. When the mascot returns to school, spend some time discussing what it has done and where it has been. A good way of asking children to use their descriptive writing skills is to ask them to invent a new animal.

The following activity is great fun, and usually produces great results, but must be used with caution.

Only try it with a class you are comfortable with, and who you think will cope with the situation.

You think you’d like to be friends with her, but she is from another country and doesn’t speak English. You need to get to school, but don’t have any kind of boat; not a row boat, a kayak, nothing!

What would you do to make a floating device to get to school today? Prompt 18: You brought a cute little puppy home from the pound.

Prompt 6: Now that scientists have concluded that all warm blooded animals dream, what do you think a yak dreams about? Prompt 16: The lunch menu for your school says Thursday’s lunch will be a surprise. Within one month he got so big, he couldn’t fit in your car.

Describe either a nightmare a yak would have or a funny dream which would make a yak happy. You like surprises, so you bought a school lunch that day. Instead of what goes up, must come down, everything is the opposite. By the end of two months he couldn’t fit in your room.

Prompt 26: You saw a blizzard outside your bedroom window when you woke up this morning.

The problem is, it’s August and you’re supposed to meet with your friends at the pool this afternoon. Prompt 27: You sign up at your local fair to join in the watermelon eating contest, because the winner gets a new bicycle. How long do you think it would take for you to get tired of the food?
